Esther (Walker) Carter 1759-1807

Birthplace-Brier Creek, Burke County, GA

Very little is known about Isaiah and Esther Carter. We know that he did own enslaved people since there are many judgements found in newspapers in his favor. After Esther Carter’s death in 1807, he remarried Sarah Reid (Redd) in 1809 and had two additional children.

In 1810 at a Sheriff Sales in Waynesborough, two enslaved people were deeded to him by court judgement.

Toney and Rachel.

At Isaiah Carters death in 1817, a newspaper advertisement declaring the remaining estate should be rented out clearly mentions all the enslaved people who where given by deed of gift to Edward Carter his son. William Stone, his son in law was acting guardian for the minor child, Edward Carter.
