Betsey Walker 1767-1835
Birthplace: Buckingham County, VA
Death: Houston County, GA
Spouse: George Walker II married about 1782
George and Betsey Walker lived on their plantation in the 10th District lots 158, 162,163, 191. It was willed to Thomas D Walker upon the death of his father George, however I believe it was sold to Joel Walker after 1835.
Betsey Walker was born 1767 in Buckingham County, VA to Joel B Walker and Judith Gwynn. There is no known familial connection between her husband, George Walker and her Walker lineage. Upon her death, she bequeathed the enslaved to her children. She lived on the plantation in Houston County in the 10th district, lots 158, 163, 162, 191 until her death.
She benefited from the labor and profits created from the enslaved people after the death of her husband, George Walker II in 1830 until her own death in 1835. It appears she brought into the marriage or was deeded 15 enslaved from a relative, Margaret Hancock at some point. The only information recovered is a distribution record from 1835.
Further research will hopefully provide the Estate returns for the 5 years of Estate support.
